Africa Cup of Nations
The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is the main international football competition in Africa. It was first held in 1957 and has been organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since then. The competition was initially contested by only three teams: Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia. South Africa was originally scheduled to compete, but was disqualified due to apartheid policies. Egypt won the inaugural tournament.

The tournament is held every two years, usually in January or February. The winner of the tournament gains automatic qualification to the FIFA Confederations Cup.
